How often do you drink coffee?

 I usually drink three cups of coffee a day.

But there are many different ways to brew coffee.

Coffee usually contains caffeine.

This makes you wake up.

 

However if you drink coffee too much, it is hard to sleep at night.

 

So be careful when you drink coffee!

 

Also if you drink too much coffee, it can give you anxiety or you can be addicted to coffee.

(anxiety: 불안감)

(addicted: 중독된)

 

Once you are addicted to coffee, you have to drink more coffee to wake yourself up.

 

Tea can be a good substitute for coffee.

If you drink coffee without eating something, it can give you stomachache too.

 

So make sure to eat something before drinking coffee.

There are many different ways to make coffee.

 

The most famous coffee beverages are Americano, espresso, and cafe latte.

In South Korea, people usually drink iced Americano in summer and hot Americano in winter.

 

People in Europe prefer espresso to Americano.

Espresso is bitter than Americano.

If you don’t like neither Americano nor Espresso, you can drink cafe latte.

 

Cafe latte is coffee beverage with milk.

 

Since it contains milk, the taste is milder than espresso and Americano.

 

There are many coffee franchises in South Korea.

 

Some of them are from America such as Starbucks.

However most of coffee franchises are originated from Korea.

Many Koreans love to study or chat with their buddies in coffee shops.

(chat: 수다를 떨다)

 

Thanks to overnight work, I expect Koreans to drink more coffee!

 

Lastly, let’s talk about the origin of coffee.

Coffee plant was originated from Ethiopia, Africa.

 

There is a legend saying that one shepherd boy found his donkey eating coffee beans.

(shepherd: 양치기)

 

And the donkey was more energetic than before!

(energetic: 기운이 넘치는)

 

So the boy tried the coffee beans himself.

 

And he found that coffee gives energy!

 

Coffee was spread from Africa to Middle East by merchants.

In the end, coffee reached Europe after wars and trades between Middle East and Europe.

Coffee became so popular in Europe that everyone from commoners to aristocrats drank it!

With Europe colonizing other parts of the world, coffee also traveled with Europeans.

Now coffee is a major export in countries like Brazil, Colombia and Vietnam.
